Elijah: Tug of War - Between Answers to Prayer

We are introducing a new song called “Even When It Hurts (Praise Song)” by Hillsong United that illustrates the feeling of pain and crying out to God in the midst of despair. Worship songs don’t often focus on grief, but the Psalms are full of honest laments. The chorus proclaims:

Even when my strength is lost
I'll praise you
Even when I have no song
I'll praise you
Even when it's hard to find the words
Louder then I'll sing your praise

There is nothing like the raw pain of tragedy that brings us to our knees and draws us near to God. God uses these times to teach us dependent prayer. He is sovereign even in the darkest times. It’s in our weakness that His glory shines the brightest.

We see in 1 Kings 17 that Elijah cries out to God asking Him to bring to life a widow’s deceased son. Because of Elijah’s faith in the Lord to resurrect the boy, the widow believed in God. God also uses our tragedy to bring others to faith in Him. Just like the chorus of the song says, may we also bring our honest feelings to God and choose to praise Him through the pain.
