Elijah: Tug of War – Between Trusting God and Trusting Ourselves
Sometimes God calls us to pray a prayer of faith, knowing that our current supply of hope and provision may run dry in doing so. In 1 Kings 17, God calls Elijah to step out in faith and ask a widow to supply him with shelter and food, even though she had very little. Because of Elijah's faith in God’s provision, the widow’s supply of food never ran out. He trusted in the source, not in the vehicle by which God would supply.
As we gather to worship, the truth of God’s Word will speak to us through a new song called “Here Now (Madness)” by Hillsong United. The song states that God’s ways are higher than ours and often don’t make sense. In the midst of chaos, sometimes all we can know is that God is with us. Just as Elijah trusted in God in the midst of a severe drought, what is it that God is calling you to trust Him with, knowing that it may cause your current supply to run dry? May we step out in faith just as Elijah and the widow did and rest in God’s presence, knowing that He is with us even when it doesn’t make sense.
