A letter from Lead Pastor Terry Sanderson
What a tremendous year it has been! We finished our journey of walking through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Many of you told me how impactful that has been in growing your confidence in God and His Word.
We saw many people come to Jesus through our ministries. Several hundred people are growing in their faith through intentional discipleship. More people are in small groups than ever before. We trained pastors in Africa and were instrumental in strengthening the whole Christian church in Haiti. And there’s so much more!
Imagine with me a church that God uses to change the lives of women, men, singles, couples, children and seniors. Imagine a church grounded in God's world, on its knees in prayer, hungry to see communities transformed by the gospel. Over the next four years, we are on mission toward that through our 20/20 plan.
Imagine a Church that equips disciples
Imagine a church where, through Jesus, people are breaking free from their past, feeding themselves spiritually, standing firm in prayer, effectively stewarding their resources and multiplying disciples through the sharing of their faith.
Imagine a Church that builds strong homes
Imagine a church where singles, young marrieds, new parents, widows, widowers, single parents and grandparents have the tools and strategies to break free from generations of brokenness. Imagine families able to raise the next generation who will in turn have the skills to parent the next generation of fruitful families.
Imagine a church that shines the light of Christ into our changing culture
Imagine a place where Christians can lead conversations about social issues with grace, love, truth and diplomacy – where we can be effective ambassadors for God’s kingdom in our workplaces, neighborhoods, homes and classrooms.
Imagine a Church that trains Christian leaders
Imagine a church that launches spiritual leaders into the community equipped to use their spiritual gifts, talents, expertise and experience to lead movements for Christ.
Imagine a church that builds God's kingdom here, near and far
Imagine a church that reaches beyond its walls by equipping and strengthening both new and struggling churches and by sharing the good news of Jesus through partner organizations here, near and far.
We are on the way to becoming that kind of church with some practical plans for next year. In 2017:
· We plan to launch an Online Campus, which will allow us to disciple people through the internet.
· We will enhance our ministry to families providing practical support for marriage and parenting.
· We will intentionally call each person to a discipleship journey and equip disciplers to transfer their faith to others.
· We will provide training to help us engage people biblically in difficult conversations concerning today's challenging social topics.
We invite you to join us on this journey by
· regularly attending weekend services
· getting connected in a small group
· serving in your area of giftedness on one of our ministry teams
· supporting Calvary daily in prayer and sacrificing financially
One of the disciplines which followers of Jesus practice is that of generosity. For many years now, my family has consistently and joyfully practiced giving a tithe of ten percent to the church, and we are humbled by God’s consistent provision. I am thankful for many of you who do the same.
While the church is financially stable, so much more could be done. With only about 25 percent of our people tithing ten percent of their income, the church operates on only one-quarter of its potential. Spiritually speaking, these are strategic times, and so much more could be done to proclaim the name of Jesus. I would encourage each of you to consider partnering with us in helping Calvary accomplish all that God calls us to do.
Please join us for our brief Annual Meeting during services the weekend of December 3- 4 at all campuses. Also, please take time daily to pray for the ministry of Calvary.
The proposed budget for 2017 we will vote on during our Annual Meeting is attached. It represents a 4.02% decrease from this year’s budget. We will always seek to accomplish as much as we can for God’s kingdom with the resources we have. Please also see the biographical information for Jason Kirk, who will be up for election for a two-year term as a member of our Board of Elders – and for Steve Huckabee and Chris Wagner, who will be on the ballot for a second two-year term. We thank Jason Sefrit for his service over the last 4 years as his term on the board will end this year.
Excited about God's future for Calvary,
